The Bloom Team

Grow wherever there’s sunlight, it’s easy to do. Plants are a great way to absorb CO2.

Two children planting trees, one girl with a shovel and one boy with a trowel, on a patch of grass with flowers and a bee flying nearby.

Increasing green cover in cities can absorb harmful pollutants and help offset carbon dioxide emissions produced by vehicles.

A cartoon boy resting his head on his hand, looking up thoughtfully, with a speech bubble asking about increasing green cover in cities by 20%.

Making the change!

The Bloom Team is about increasing green cover on school grounds to help absorb pollutants, improve local air quality and offset CO2 emissions.

Participating schools will team up with students and their communities to boost green cover on school grounds — planting trees, building pollinator corridors, and growing green walls.

There are multiple ways for primary schools to score points for greening activities:

  • +1 OPNY point for every tree planted on school grounds

  • +10 points for every green wall (10 points per side, min height 1m)

  • +10 points for every green (mesh) fence (10 points per fence, min height 1m)

  • +10 points for every green roof (min area 5m²)

  • +10 points for the creation of a pollinator friendly corridor or area

  • +10 points for building a bug hotel

Progress will be trackable via our leaderboard—coming soon—as shown below.
