Switch Off
and Save

To reduce power usage and help you sleep tight, switch off your devices during the night.

While the UK is increasing its use of renewable energy, over half of our electricity still comes from fossil fuel-powered plants that burn coal, oil, and gas.

Unfortunately, 23% of the power we use is wasted on idle devices!

Our Planet Needs You presents Switch Off and Save

Schools are teaming up to reduce wasted energy. Devices and appliances continue to use power even when left on standby. By switching off lights and equipment after use, students and staff can help cut costs and lower fossil fuel consumption.

Saving water matters too.

If every UK student saved just 1 litre a day, we’d save over 8 million litres—enough to fill 3 Olympic pools! That also means less energy used and fewer carbon emissions.

Schools earn points for every percentage drop in electricity and water use compared to the previous year.

Progress will be trackable via our leaderboard—coming soon—as shown below.
