The Anti-Litter Bugs

A force to be reckoned with, committed and keen, keeping our planet tidy and clean.

63% of UK litter is made up of plastic, most commonly drinks bottles and packaging.

Over time this litter degrades turning into micro-plastics that end up in our water and food sources.

Consuming micro plastics make us sick by causing damage to human cells and are linked to serious illnesses, breathing difficulties and allergic reactions.

So what can we do?

Introducing the Anti-Litter Bugs!

Supported by Veolia

Local students are joining forces to take on pesky litter, making our streets cleaner, greener, and cutting down harmful microplastics in the environment.

Each school can score points for their team by carrying out litter picks in their local area.

Designated litter-picking zones will be agreed in advance, then checked afterwards by OPNY Youth Leads, who will verify and log the scores on each school’s behalf.

Schools score 20 points for every litter pick they complete, but lose 1 point for every piece of litter left behind.

Progress will be trackable via our leaderboard—coming soon—as shown below.

Litter-picking equipment is provided to schools free of charge by Veolia.
